Welcome to the Matchbox Labels page
In the days where smoking was commonplace in pubs, there was a demand for the bar to sell or give away matchboxes. This was was a good opportunity for some inexpensive promotion and advertising. Match companies would supply generic matchboxes, with a label stuck to the top of the box, showing the pub. In later years, people would carefully remove these labels and collect them. These can now be found on eBay for a few pounds each. I have managed to find a few of these from pubs in Basingstoke. However, I have no clue what year they are from.
